A kid is a kid is a kid

Every kid is different. My kid happens to be Korean, American, jovial, an adoptee, a banana lover, dark haired, medium skinned, dark eyed, tall, hypotonic, hard working, stubborn, loving, and loved beyond measure.

Despite all this...he is just a kid. Just like I was; just like every other kid is.

I think sometimes we (especially parents who have transracially adopted) tend to focus on our children's unique aspects to the point of obsession. Although that is important (VERY important in some cases), at some point you just have to say...my kid is just a kid.

Going out of your way to find ways that your child is different from you or others around you will eventually ingrain in your child that he or she is different from others in fundamental ways...and that is not the case.

Celebrate
what is unique about your child and his or her life. Don't dwell on what is different.

Little Bug has 10 fingers, 10 toes, 2 ears, 2 eyes, 1 mouth, and one heart....just like everyone else. That should be celebrated too, right?
